Coastal Wedding at the Island House from Riverland Studios

If I could be a guest at any wedding, it would definitely be this one!  These two had fun-filled Coastal wedding to celebrate their new life together and I have a feeling the newlyweds and their lively guest list won't forget it anytime soon!  Lindsay & Tim fell in love at Clemson University. They were neighbors their freshmen year, and after a fall break trip to Charleston, they started dating. After graduating, they moved to Charleston for three years, which is why they chose to get married in this city. Even though they now live in Chicago, Charleston will always hold a special place in their hearts.  These college sweethearts got married at St. Mary’s of the Annunciation, a stunning Roman Catholic Church in Downtown Charleston.  Their reception took place at the Island House on John’s Island, one of our favorite Charleston wedding venues! This location is so scenic; there are fields of flowers and an awesome view of the Ashley River. Lindsay chose soft details, including all white linens, light pink and cream flowers, and lots of candles. Guests dined on a selection of seafood and shrimp and grits from Duvall Events and a delicious signature cocktail. They tore up the dance floor to the sounds of PlaneJane and ended the night with a group shot of all of the Clemson Alumni. Tell us a little bit about how you met your husband…

 We met when we were both freshman at Clemson University in SC. We were both placed in over-flow housing and we were neighbors! I asked him to my sorority’s crush party and it’s been love ever since!

How did he propose?  How long were you engaged for?

Tim proposed in March of 2012 during his last year in law school. He planned it out with my boss so they would give me the day off. He proposed on Sullivan’s Island (I literally had no idea!) and than he flew us to NJ the next morning so we could celebrate with my family! We were engaged for about 18 months.

Out of the entire day, what was the most memorable moment?

The most memorable moment was seeing Tim for the first time. We saw each other before the ceremony. I walked out on a dock overlooking the beach to meet Tim. It was a moment that all at once I felt anxious, happy and excited.

The bridesmaids dresses were “aluminum”. The guys wore grey.

The flowers were all blush tone colors.

What made you choose your venue? What elements drew you to it?

We were looking for a venue that would amaze our guests. This was a destination wedding and we wanted our guests to be wowed by the beauty of Charleston. The Island House definitely captures that!

Something old: My something old, borrowed and blue was one thing: my mom’s mom wedding ring. It is a beautiful ring that has sapphire stones on it. This was a piece of jewelry that I always knew I wanted to wear on my wedding day.

Describe your Specialty Drinks?

We lived in Charleston for three years while Tim attended law school at Charleston School of Law. Our favorite restaurant, Fish had a specialty cocktail that was Tim’s favorite! That was our inspiration for our signature cocktail. It was Vodka, soda water and elderflower syrup with cucumber.. it seemed to be a crowd pleaser!

 Tell us all about the details!  Did any have special meaning? What was your favorite?

We wanted our wedding to be like no other! We were really looking for that Charleston feel… Right on the water, under a tent, serving shrimp and grits!

What’s your favorite picture from your wedding and why?

Hmm.. I would have to say the one of Tim and I kissing in the wildflowers at the Island house. That was the point in the day when we felt like we could finally relax.

Most valuable piece of advice you’d give to a newly engaged bride:

I would say .. If you have a vision to go for it! I look back at the photos of our wedding day and it was exactly was I had envisioned. But throughout the whole process I kept in mind the end result: that I was marrying my best friend and no matter what, it would be perfect.

DeBordieu Club Weddings {Bevin + Casey} Carmen Ash Photography

While we’re still recovering from all that glittery goodness we delivered yesterday, we’re moving on to Georgetown, South Carolina where they deliver wonderful DeBordieu Club weddings that are sure to suit your fancy.  Georgetown is a cozy, coastal town located north of Charleston and just south of Myrtle Beach.  It is home to the beautiful DeBordieu Club which recently hosted Bevin + Casey’s lively Lowcountry wedding.  The beautiful couple brought on the talented crew at Blossoms Events to dazzle their guest with dreamy peony and tulip arrangements, while the bridesmaids were dressed in fabulous LulaKate gowns.  As always, thanks to the wonderful Carmen Ash Photography for capturing this one-of-a-kind DeBordieu Club wedding!

Selecting The Perfect Bridesmaids Dresses {LulaKate}

Boy, do we have a treat for you today!  We're welcoming the ladies of LulaKate to give us some pointers on choosing the perfect, Southern bridesmaids dresses for each and everyone of your lovely maids.  Trust me, you (and your girls) will be happy you read this... charleston weddings, lulakate bridesmaids dresses, striped bridesmaids dresses

It’s no question that when planning a wedding, the bride is faced with hundreds of crucial decisions to make. From color scheme to cake flavor, each decision is an extension of a bride’s personality and directly affects the most special day of her life! One huge checkbox on the proverbial list is finding the perfect dress for the bridesmaids. With so many designers, colors, and fabrics out there to choose from, it’s no surprise that this task tends to be an exciting, yet sometimes difficult one to check off the list.

We’ve got some pointers that may be helpful for brides that are beginning the search for their bridesmaid dresses. To keep it simple, we call these tips the 5 Cs.

Color

Obviously this plays a huge role in deciding which dresses will be best for the maids. Be sure to factor in the skin tones and coloring of your bridal party. Your rustic, barn wedding sets the perfect scene for the all so elegant and trendy neutral color palette, right? However, since you asked your three fair-skinned cousins from Alaska to stand by your side, it may be wise to steer away from lighter, skin-toned colors. Try choosing a color that each bridesmaid can pull off and that also goes with the season in which you’re tying the knot. Seek out collections that offer wide arrays of colors so you can get as close as possible to the shade you’ve been envisioning. LulaKate has over 190 colors from which to choose! Also be sure to bring inspirational pictures of your color scheme to any appointments to help you better narrow down your choices. If you are unable to see the dress in the color you’ve chosen, ask the retailer or manufacturer for a swatch of the fabric or for any pictures of real life weddings featuring bridesmaids in the color. The more evidence you can see of a color and how it was used in a wedding, the better!

Cut

So your sister-in-law just had a baby, your MOH is a supermodel/size 000, and your college roommate has curves that would make Beyonce jealous? Very rarely is it easy to find a style that will universally flatter the wide array of body types in your wedding party. Finding the perfect cut can be one of the trickiest hurdles to jump over when trying to please your bridesmaids. Try seeking out collections that allow for some customization or mix-and-match-ability so that each bridesmaid can pick out a style in which they will be comfortable wearing for 8+ hours. Here at LulaKate, all of our bodices, waistbands, and skirts are interchangeable, meaning that bridesmaids can ultimately build a dress that is most flattering for their figure. Many brides opt to give their bridesmaids free reign when it comes to picking out their style of dress, as long as they are all in the same color and fabric.

Cohesiveness

You’ve finally found “the one”: a spunky, striped, tea length wedding dress complete with a vintage, birdcage veil that is going to look amazing amid the farmhouse backdrop of your wedding ceremony! That means it’s probably best to pass on the floor length, beaded designer bridesmaids dresses that you initially dog-eared in your Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. Make sure the dresses your maids are wearing are ones that complement your wedding dress. Cohesiveness never goes out of style, so be sure to consider this when weighing your options for the bridal party. Bring a picture of your wedding gown with you when picking out bridesmaids dresses, and ask your consultant what he or she thinks about the two together.

Classic Continuity

We’ve all seen those pictures from our parents’ 1978 wedding and asked ourselves “Floral Print? Velvet? WHAT were they thinking?!” Sure, in theory it’s fun to express your inner fashionista through the medium of your bridal party, but remember that you will be looking back on these photos for years to come. You can never go wrong with classic lines, colors, and fabrics that won’t cause your grandkids to giggle while looking through your wedding album one day.

charleston weddings, myrtle beach weddings, lulakate bridesmaids dresses

Cost

This is a big C that can sometimes be awkward to bring up among your bridal party but is definitely something that should be considered when asking your friends and family to be a part of the big day. Take a simple poll among your bridesmaids and ask what their budget is for a dress. Nowadays brides are helping out by putting money towards the dresses and including that as part of their gift to the bridesmaids. If you are worried the price isn’t right, don’t be shy to ask the retailer whether they provide any group discounts, payment plan options, or if they are having a Trunk Show in the near future.'

When taking all or some of the 5 Cs into consideration, you’ll be sure to find great bridesmaid dresses that will not only represent your personal taste but will also make for a happy and comfortable bridal party! Happy hunting!

Pepper Plantation Wedding {Brittany + Tim }

You're going to die over this charming, Lowcountry wedding at the Pavilion at Pepper Plantation.  Designed by Winship Productions, every ounce of Brittany + Tim's Charleston wedding is so stinkin' cute I can barely stand it!  The bridesmaids were dressed in icy, blue LulaKate dresses matched with vibrant, pink peony bouquets from Branch Design Studio (that will make you melt!), while the men sported classic tan suits.  I have to say this might be one of my favorite bridal parties ever.  Not only do I love everything about their attire, but they were clearly ready to have a good time.  The group shots Reese Moore Photography captured after the ceremony are just priceless.  At the reception, Brittany kicked up her cowboy boots as guests dined on delicious Lowcountry cuisine before enjoying tasty treats from the surprise ice cream truck!   At the end of the evening, the newlyweds jumped in their antique car and jetted away!

Charleston Wedding {Buffie + Jay}

Now, there's something about Buffie + Jay's wedding, in the heart of the Holy City, that just sets my heart a-flutter.  I'm guessing it's the backdrop of charming carriage houses, historic churches and the cobblestone streets, captured by the talented Krista Lee Photography, that makes me go weak in the knees, but I'll let you be the judge.   Buffie looked stunning in a breathtaking gown with sheer cap sleeves from White, while her bridesmaids sported floor-length, one shoulder LulaKate gowns in a vibrant, spring blue.  The ceremony took place at the First Baptist Church of Charleston where the choir sang as Buffy and her father made their way down the aisle.  After saying 'I do,' the newlyweds took an intimate carriage ride through downtown before heading to the Daniel Island Country Club to celebrate with family and friends!
