On any given weekend in Charleston, you’ll find bachelor and bachelorette parties roaming the streets of Downtown Charleston to celebrate their future Bride or Groom. Over the long weekend, they’ll partake in all the Holy City has to offer (and we mean all of it!) – beach & bars and spas & restaurants. You name it, they’re doing it. For all of you that have headed to the Lowcountry for one of these memorable weekends, or for anyone that is in the midst of planning a big bash, we thought you might want to add to something to your itinerary. We recently stumbled across Charleston Distillery Tour and we’re positive it’s a Bachelor(ette) Party must when headed to the Holy City!
With Charleston’s craft distillery scene on the up and up, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to check out some of our favorite distilleries. Not to mention, the thought of spending the afternoon taste-testing handcrafted liquors was pretty appealing. The tour is offered through Charleston Culinary Tours and is approximately 3.5 hours long. Each ticket is $50.00 per person and includes tastings at three local distilleries, a cocktail made by a local mixologist containing one of the liquors, transportation, snacks and water (to keep everyone nice and hydrated!)
The afternoon kicked off at the Charleston Visitors Center Bus shade where we hopped into the “Charleston Distillery Tours” van to get the party started. From the get-go, our awesome tour guides started discussing the arrival of the Charleston distillery scene and how the Holy City is a town full of liquor lovers – like we didn’t already know!
The van made its first stop just up the road at Striped Pig where, not only did we have the chance to chat it up with the owner Johnny, but we also sampled a selection of their tasty products. My favorite, the Striped Rum. With heavy notes of vanilla and butterscotch and a smooth, clean taste, it’s easy to sip straight from the glass. Johnny also filled us on Striped Pig’s journey, where their name came from and how they plan to grow in the coming years. (They’ve also have a cool event space that works well for rehearsal dinners, showers, private parties, etc.)
The next spot on the tour was High Wire Distilling and their charming tasting room. You’ve probably seen their flag flying high as you make your way downtown, right as I-26 hits Crosstown. Scott, the owner, shared their newest gin (which knocked everyone’s socks off), their story and countless products.
We wrapped up our saucy afternoon right on King Street at Charleston Distilling Co. (the newest of three). I’m totally obsessed with their barrel room. Natural light, exposed brick – gorgeous and available for event rentals J We had the chance to taste Tolerance, a delicious whiskey liqueur that’s distilled with cinnamon. After a few from our party took their turn stirring up the newest batch of Tolerance, the whole crew headed to Burwell’s to finish the afternoon with a craft cocktail!
For those of you looking to enhance an already awesome Bachelor(ette) party weekend, we highly suggest signing your crew up for this tour. Not only is it a blast to test out local favorites but the information we absorbed by this highly educate group of guides had all of the party go-ers engaged and enjoying the day. Oh, and don't forget to check out these venues for your upcoming wedding weekend events!
