ELEANOR & JONATHAN
Edisto Island Wedding
Edisto Island, South Carolina
How did you two meet? Jon and I met while we both worked at Rolling Stone Magazine in New York City. Our cubicles were located near each other and while we worked in different departments, we struck up a friendship as a result of the proximity of our desks. Our first conversation happened on the elevator when we both happened to be going out for lunch at the same time. A few months into our friendship, Jon asked me to meet him at one of his favorite French restaurants on the Upper West Side called French Roast. French Roast happened to be closed that day, but we were able to go to an Irish pub nearby and the rest is history!
Tell us your engagement story. I had been home visiting my family in Nashville, TN when the pandemic hit. Because of quarantine, I wasn’t able to return to NYC, and Jon and I were forced to be long-distance for 2.5 months. When he was finally able to come visit me at the end of May 2020, he had decided he would propose. He asked for my parents’ permission on a Friday morning while I was still asleep, and the following day we went on a hike near Monteagle, TN. Jon brought his camera and tripod on the hike hoping to capture a great picture of us, but the trail was packed that day and we couldn’t find a good place to set up the tripod. Right before we gave up on taking a photo, we found a secluded trail down to a stream that no one was around - we decided to get our shot. Jon set up his tripod and then asked me to help him change the film in his camera. He handed me a film canister and told me to open it. When I did, I found he had written me a letter on a strip of film and when I looked up, Jon was pulling out a ring and getting down on one knee! There were lots of tears involved and I, of course, said ‘yes’.
