Tell us how you met: We both worked at the same company and met through at a mutual friend’s birthday party

Proposal Details: Gary proposed at the top of Mt. Washington (in Pittsburgh, in the neighborhood where we lived) on a platform that overlooked the whole city. And then we celebrated with a bottle of expensive champagne (my favorite!) at a restaurant nearby.

How did you select your venue? We loved the rustic features of the Magnolia Plantation carriage house (chandeliers, beams, big oak trees, river, fire pit) and we knew we wanted an indoor/outdoor venue that allowed for easy flow where people weren’t too segregated.

What Lowcountry elements did you incorporate into your big day? The food (shrimp & grits, fried green tomatoes, chicken & waffles, etc), the lanterns, major jars & other burlap/rustic décor were all Lowcountry inspired.

The Flowers: Cream mini calla lilies, Baby’s breath, creamhydrangeas, seeded eucalyptus, cream lisianthus, cream wax flowers with linen burlap and twine handle little stems showing. Spanish moss hanging from the chandeliers.

The Food + Beverage:

Pre-Ceremony drinks were cucumber lemon infused water & sweet tea with mint
Hors D’Oeuvres: Bacon Wrapped Scallops, Mini Shrimp & Grit Cake, Fried Green Tomato Bite with Goat Cheese Toast
Spinach Salad w/ toasted walnuts, dried cranberries, goat cheese and GA peach poppy seed vinaigrette
Entrees (choice of): Filet Mignon with smoked gouda mashed potatoes, Seared Grouper with tropical salsa and succotash, Pecan Encrusted Chicken Breast with whole grain mustard beurre blanc and smoked gouda mashed potatoes

Best Piece of Advice for Brides-to-be: Choose a venue that already has the look & feel you want because you will spend a lot less on décor and rentals to transform the space. Also – take some time to take it all in because it’s the fastest day of your life!
